Everyone is at risk of computer crime
Everyone is at risk of computer crimes and threats, but the more you have to lose the greater your risk may be.
Computer threats are a growing and very serious concern. These threats have the ability to:
Damage your computer hardware, software, and files. Between hard drive data and stored cookies, your computer may be the single most valuable data resource that you own. What would you do if tomorrow you were unable to turn your computer on? What would you lose?
Steal data and resources. Computer crimes are often driven by a search for gain which could include access to your financial resources, stolen identities, and purchases made on your accounts.
Implicate you and damage your reputation. If a hacker is able to access your system and use it for criminal behaviour, you could find yourself wrapped up in a situation to which you played no part. This includes stolen IP addresses, hijacked bandwidths, and hijacked email accounts.
Threats of this nature are divided into several categories, depending on the mode and function of the threat
