Protection From
ActiveX
What is ActiveX
ActiveX are software modules. These modules have the unique characteristic of being based on Microsoft’s COM (Component Object Model) architecture. ActiveX itself is not a threat, but rather it is a vulnerable point in the computer.
// Why are ActiveX infections a significant threat?
ActiveX controls can provide complete access to your system. In effect they allow the webpage to integrate itself into your computer.
// How is Active X spread?
ActiveX controls are often integrated into web pages. When a user operates an ActiveX-compliant browser, the webpage’s ActiveX controls are downloaded. This turns the webpage into a software page. If the ActiveX control is malicious, it provides access to your system.
// Where does ActiveX reside?
ActiveX controls reside in webpages that you access while using the internet, they are then able to infect applications that use ActiveX.
