Multipartite Viruses

// What is a Multipartite virus?

A Multipartite Virus is a special class of virus that has been designed to combine a variety of attack strategies.

// Why are Multipartite viruses a significant threat?

Because they are able to combine attack strategies, multipartite viruses are able to pose a threat to a large number of computers and operating systems. These viruses can infect documents, boot sectors, and executable applications.

// How are Multipartite viruses spread?

Since Multipartite viruses are adept at infecting so many aspects of your system, they are also very quick to spread from computer to computer. Common design features include the ability to infect documents, which can spread infection as email attachments. Multipartite viruses may also infect downloadable programs or operate as boot sector infectors, spread through CDs, DVDs and other disks.

// Where do Multipartite viruses reside?

Multipartite viruses usually begin their residence in the computer’s memory and then move to infect the hard drive’s boot sector. From the boot sector, the multipartite virus is usually able to infect most areas of the computer.
