What To Look for in Anti-Virus Software?
// First things first.
Do you have anti-virus software? If not, why not?
Go and get some, now, but first, have a look what sort of protection you want.
Most reputable computer security companies offer a protection suite in exchange for a one-off cost, part of another package (say as part of your phone service), or monthly fee.
But there are basic things to look out for. You want good protection against all kinds of viruses and good protection whilst surfing.
Although companies offer products that provide all sorts of bells and whistles, and fancy interfaces, they all come down to the same thing: keeping your computer safe from nasties.
You can buy separate solutions – one to guard against viruses, the other to guard against surfing – but most people opt for a joint solution as the best way of staying safe.
In the anti-virus camp, they’re products such as the Avira Anti-Virus Premium, the F-Prot, Lavasoft Ad-Adware plus and Protector Plus. In the internet security range of products, comes the BitDefender Internet Security, F-Secure Internet Security and the McAfee Internet Security products.
